Finding good employees is challenging for most businesses. However, even more difficult is keeping these valuable members of staff once appointed. At Westco, we are delighted to have many long service staff across our business, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for all they do for us, and our customers.
For example, Ian Harrison in our Warehouse has over 30 years’ service here at Westco. And, snapping at his heels, the following employees also have over 20 years of loyal service:
- Chris Carney
- Anthony Hall
- Cath Halliday
- Debbie Lloyd
- Dec McLernon
- Darren Mercer
- Ste Myers
- Angela Quayle
- Darren Taylor
- Dean Young
- Michelle Evans
But when it comes to the Westco family, it’s just not their commitment to our business that deserves mention. For example, Ian Harrison is married to Donna who works in Internal Sales (and was previously the Westco customer services manager). Donna herself has been with us since 1987, so their partnership and loyalty to Westco is incredible!
Westco operations manager and head of warehouse Darren Mercer has been at Westco for 30 years in 2018, having worked his way up within the business. Today, Darren is proud to look after the Westco Scholarship Programme which aims to bring a new generation into our company and our industry.
Commenting on length of service, Darren said: “Long-term employees are crucial for many different reasons. They have considerable knowledge of a company’s products and services, not to mention its culture. Not only does this result in high levels of productivity, but it also leads to increased customer satisfaction. Let’s face it, the more knowledge people in a business have, the better. But that understanding takes time to build and can be easily lost when people move on.
“At Westco, we have a combined length of service which totals over 375 years in our warehouse alone. That’s a huge benefit to our business and our customers. As such, it’s only right that we take the time to acknowledge the good work done by all our staff each and every day, and give particular thanks to those who have made the Westco family what it is today.”
